Radical Translations

At an event in the historical Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library in Antwerp, team member Brecht Deseure's recent book was presented. The book discusses and reproduces an exceptional series of watercolours depicting life under French revolutionary rule in the Southern Netherlands.

Peter Ruyffelaere, director of Ludion publishers, Sara Lammens, general director of the Royal Library of Belgium, and professor Herman Van Goethem, rector of the University of Antwerp, introduced the book in the imposing surrounding of the library's 19th-century reading room. The Royal Library of Belgium and the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library co-organised a pop-up expo for this occasion, providing visitors of the book launch and of the ensuing Heritage Days (12 September) with an unique opportunity to admire all nine volumes of the original Goetsbloets manuscript.
