Italian tutor to the Thrale daughters during the 1770s and 1780s. Povoleri also translated Thomas Gray's 'Elegy on a Churchyard'.

By 1790, Povoleri was plying his trade as a professor of English Literature in Paris at the newly founded Société Polysophique ou école de sciences utiles et agréables, a language-teaching institution on the rue de Richelieu under the directorship of a M. Deltufo. Deltufo later appears as a translator, journalist and printer to the Committee on Public Instruction in 1794.
