Notes

Contrary to what the title page claims, this appears to be a translation of Aubin's French version of Harrington's Aphorism (Paris: Didot, 1795), and not a direct translation from the English.

In his preface, the publisher Nicolò Bettoni (administrator of the Tipografia Dipartimentale) argued that Harrington's ideas were particularly relevant at a time of revolution and war in Europe, given that he developed them not only through theoretical reflections but also through his own experience of revolution during the English Civil War.
