Notes
The translator Heron refers on p.6 to comments made by the anonymous translator of the London edition on the hissing of Marat's bust in theatres, indicating that it preceded his own version.
Heron moves the translation of Louvet's 'Hymn to Death' to the appendix, which namechecks Algernon Sydney, and adds a translation of Mme Roland's biographical sketch of Louvet from her 'Appeal to posterity' (1795). Roland's sketch does not appear in Johnson's London translation of Louvet's 'Memoir'.
