Summary (extracted citations)
This is the first English translation of Foscolo's *The Last Letters of Jacopo Ortis*, also sold in Edinburgh by George Goldie and Dublin by John Cumming. It was based on a 1811 Italian-language edition published in London by the bookseller Romualdo Zotti. Foscolo's novel was reviewed favourably in [*The Quarterly Review*] (https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/The_Quarterly_Review/JLFZAAAAcAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=quarterly%20review%20december%201812&pg=PA441&printsec=frontcover) in Dec. 1812 (the translator refers to this review in the Preface). Douglas Radcliff-Umstead thinks that F.B. is "probably a relative of the novelist Fanny Burney". See Radcliff-Umstead, *Ugo Foscolo* (1970, Twayne), p. 37.
