Notes

This abridged retranslation of Bolingbroke's 'The idea of a Patriot King', appeared in 1790, at the height of attempts to fashion a constitutional monarchy, projecting Bolingbroke's vision of kingship into the age of democratic revolution. Most of the English references were removed to make it relevant for the French context. The translation starts from page two of the original.

Includes a half-page translator's non-dedication 'reminder' to the King urging him to embrace liberty, truth and patriotism, and two pages of notes at the end.
