Notes

The anonymous Italian translator offered a re-translation of Emile. The text is the famous prophecy of a future revolution where all roles will be overthrown and monarchs will become subjects and subjects rulers. This translation differs from 1797 Venitian edition of Emile (part of Biblioteca dell'uomo repubblicano, vol.2, pp.141-142). Here the translator decided to include Rousseau's footnote in the text and made different lexical choices in his translation.
