Notes

Politics for the people, vol. 2, n. 28 (1795), p. 443-444. Anticlerical fragment by Voltaire, taken from his Évangile du jour (vol. 6, 7 or 8). The dogmas or organised religion are a curse. Adoration of the Supreme Being should be bring people together as brothers. The translation resembles, but is not identical to, a translated fragment in The Monthly Review, vol. 42 (1770), p. 559. It is not clear whether a common source existed. Has there been an English translation of the entire Évangile du jour?
