Summary (extracted citations)

'The following extracts contain the most important passages of that very interesting performance; and the exact conformity in almost every particular with the foregoing account, has induced the Editor to insert them by way of Appendix. - The author of the former is unknown, though the narrative is universally allowed to be the fullest and best extant; but with regard to the latter, have the name and authority of a man who has rendered himself celebrated throughout Europe by his love of truth, and the elegance of his literary compositions'.

Notes

Avertissement to the Appendix, p. 77-78, introducing Linguet's experiences in the Bastille and explaining why the editor has included them.
