Notes

A long translator's preface, signed L.M., comments on the political systems discussed by Adams while apologizing for his bias towards aristocracy. The editors want to contribute to the ongoing debate around the 1791 constitution by promoting Britain's bicameral system because direct democracy is not a viable option. The translator concludes by insisting on his own patriotism and love of liberty. Delacroix takes issue on several occasions against Adams' justification for aristocratic institutions.
