The author of this translation was a freemason, just like Filangieri. He was a member of the Neuf Soeurs lodge, of which Claude Pastoret, who called Filangieri "the Italian Montesquieu", also was a member. See, A.Trampus, La naissance du langage politique moderne. L'heritage des lumières de Filangierià Constant, p. 102-105. At the end of the translator's preface there is mention of a series of observations on the text but there is no sign of these at the end of the seventh volume.
New edition of 1798 has been reviewed in Journal typographique et bibliographique, vol. 1 (1797-1798), p. 565. It stresses the importance of this book, which the government has declared to be indispensable to all lawyers. Idem vol. 2 (1798-1799), p. 206.
