Notes

Reprinted in Philadelphia by Francis Bailey (1788). Charles Crawford's translation of Brissot's 'An Oration upon the necessity of establishing at Paris a Society to cooperate with those of America and London towards the abolition of the trade and slavery of Negroes' (1788). Brissot's speech promoted the long-term abolition of slavery unlike the London Committee’s more focused goal for the abolition of the slave trade only.
