Notes
Volney was not satisfied with the 1792 translation and, from 1795 on, sought to establish a new translation under his supervision. The project was delayed due to his travel to the US. He deposited a copyright declaration that no new translation should be made without his cooperation. This 1799 edition is therefore a piracy. The publisher was a known radical.
