Notes

Testu was the son of Maurice Testu, squire and seigneur de Chaltrait et des Champeaux, contrôleur des guerres à Paris. From 1788, he worked as a clerk for François-Jean-Noël Debure, before buying his business for 25,000 livres in June 1791. Often collaborated with the publisher Jean-André Blanchon from Aug 1791 until An 8 (1799-1800). Appointed imperial publisher to Napoleon from 1808-14, and then the duc d'Orléans and prince de Condé from 1818-19. Probably related to the Testu who managed the printshop for Laurent-Charles d'Houry. From 1792, he published the 'Almanach national', taking it over from d'Houry's widow, and marrying her daughter in 1795.
