Notes
This article includes Ranza's translation of the letter by a French priest by the name of Valant, about his marriage, which had originally been published by Galletti and Osselin in their Journal des Lois.
Ranza's translation from the French is followed by his own 'Riflessioni del Monitore Italiano indirizzate al Vescovo Lindet', where he writes in favour of the practice of allowing clerics to marry and also calls for the admission of married men into the priesthood. Ranza highlights the case of Bishop Robert-Thomas Lindet who famously got married in November 1792. Moreover, in April 1793 Gobel, the Bishop of Paris, had also formally accepted a married man into the priesthood. In July 1793 it would be decreed that Bishops who tried to prevent clerical marriage would be removed from office.

It is one of the many articles that Ranza translated from the Journal des Lois. See Roberto Zaugg, 'I giornali di Guglielmo Francesco Galletti. Imprenditoria tipografica e conformismo politico nella Parigi rivoluzionaria' Rivista storica italiana, 119:3 (2007): 1001-1047.
