Notes
The Cabinet, vol.3, pp.158-176. Article in a series about the life and works of Machiavelli. This instalment contains translated fragments from 'The Prince', as well as lengthy fragments from Frederick II's 'Anti-Machiavel'. The goal is to show that Machiavelli's critics were wrong in depicting him as an apologist of despotism and princely power and to portray him as a champion of liberty and republicanism. Also contains fragments in French from Frederick's 'Instruction militaire du roi de Prusse pour ses généraux' to highlight the king's own despotic behaviour.
