Notes

The work is dedicated by the translator (D.M.) to the Cisalpine citizens. This translation was published between July 1797 (when the Cisalpine constitution was approved) and September 1797 when the new revolutionary year, year 7, started. The translators dedicated his work to the Cisalpine republic because he was welcomed there while he had to flee from a despotic country. See, p.IV

The anonymous translator introduces his work as a thanking gift to the Cisalpine people who welcomed him as a political refugee due to his revolutionary activities. The translator mentions the possibility of a lack of refinement in his translation but he assured that the translation abounds with republicanism.
