Based mainly in the rue Saint-Martin.

Served his apprenticeship under Jacques-François Froullé from 1780–1786. His brother Adrien, later a publisher in his own right, apprenticed for him from 1787–91, when they published under the name, Frères Leclère. Took over the business of Louis Ravier in 1798. Appointed official publisher for the archbishops of Rouen and Paris in 1791 and 1803. From 1800–1802, he co-directed the Imprimerie des Sourds-Muets with his brother. Retired to Marseille-en-Beauvaisis, where he practised as a substitute justice of the peace.
