Notes

Jean-Marie Chevet was born in Paris. According to his carte de sûreté (identity card issued to Parisians during the Reign of Terror) dated 1st August 1793, he was 28 years old and worked as a printer; a new identity card issued on 15th May 1794 stated he was 29 years old.

Before 1791, he would have served in the Poitou regiment.

He was working as a printer in his own right by 1793. Between 1795 and 1796, he worked in partnership with the librarian and man of letters Nöel Aubin.

In 1803, he authored the book 'Introduction à la lecture ou Méthode pour y parvenir'; at this point, his profession was officially recorded as "schoolteacher", and he was residing at rue Champ-de-Repos, 110, Faubourg Montmartre. He was only ever recorded as a "former" bookseller (January 1804).

Chevet was still alive on 21st March 1822 - his daughter, Pierette-Gertrude, was born on this date in Paris, in the parish of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
