It is quite likely that this is the same Freeman as Mrs Mary Freeman Shepherd (1731-1815), a boarder at the English Benedictine nunnery, whose letters and papers are now preserved in the Archives Nationales (Paris). In January 1792, she chided Robespierre for not cashing a cheque she had forwarded him for the benefit of the "le bien public". A month later "la Citoyenne Freeman, patriote anglaise" presented 200 francs to the Legislative Assembly, via Pierre Ruel de Beurnonville (later Minister for War), towards buying shoes for the military volunteers.
