Notes

Not to be confused with Thomas Angus, her husband, who died in 1784. This Tyneside family (including her sons Thomas Junior and George) ran a printing and publishing business between 1774 and 1825, especially important in the production of Chapbooks. The engraver Thomas Bewick (most famous for illustrating Wordsworth's poetry) worked for them and Margaret published 'Specimens of wood engraving by Thomas and John Bewick' (1798) and John Bell's 'Rhymes of Northern Bards' (1812). She retired in 1812, handing over the business to her son George.
