Notes

Jacques-Mathieu Ancelle was born in Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives, Calvados in 1772. He was active in Paris as a bookseller from 1798 and became a patented (licensed) bookseller on 1st October 1812, with his patent renewed on 15th March 1817.

He handed his business over to his son, Félix-Hippolyte Ancelle (11th June 1798-1877), who became a patented bookseller on 20th March 1827. Félix-Hippolyte was active in Paris under the name F. Ancelle until around 1853, when he moved to Nogent-le-Roi, Eure-et-Loir.

Jacques-Mathieu Ancelle died in Nogent-le-Roi en May 1857.
