Notes

He was born in Canda, Veneto, in 1754. Coming from a modest family background, he decided to pursue a career in publishing and bookselling, hoping to gain some advantages from it. He travelled to Venice in order to work under Giovanni Battista Albrizzi (1698-1777), renowned publisher of the time. Here, he dedicated himself to the study of bibliography, and in 1778 he settled in Padua where he opened his own bookshop. His true passion were the arts, and he focused on publishing books and catalogues on painting, architecture and sculpture. He died in 1809 due to illness.
