Notes

In his Avertissement, Ducis explains that he has shortened the piece and has focused on the blinding of young Arthur by his uncle, King John. He elaborates on the terrible death of the despotic king and decries the role played by vile courtiers. There is clear subtext aimed at contemporary monarchy.
