Notes

Salaville's translation of Milton's 'Théorie de la royauté', is preceded by a lengthy introduction to Milton and his works by Mirabeau. Pages xiv-liv of this introduction are a reprint of Mirabeau's earlier translation of Milton's 'Areopagitica', published as 'Sur la liberté de la presse' (1788). Milton was a major source of inspiration for French radicals and republicans.
