Notes

Written in 1808 but published in translation first (1811) because of Napoleonic censorship. Appeared anonymously then later acknowledged by Destutt de Tracy.

A later edition was published in 1819 (Paris: Delaunay).

According to Franco Venturi, Destutt de Tracy's analysis had a major influence on many 19th-century revolutionary groups, such as the Carbonari, Decembrists etc.
