Notes

This Memorial was an appeal from Paine to Monroe for his release from prison, proclaiming his innocence. No English copy of Paine's September 1794 MMS has yet been found (TBC).

Note to team: Look for copy in Morrison papers in British Library. See also Moncure D. Conway, Life and Works of Thomas Paine, Vol.3 'Memorial to Monroe' for any further info.

Not clear whether the digital version is the souce-text, or a translation back from the French to the English.
