Notes
This typically enlightenment work appears to be a defence of the power of knowledge as a vital component of human emancipation, in all its forms. It went through numerous editions, including a third by 1789 (Geneva: Barde, Manget et Cie & Paris: Maradan), a seventh by 1806 with translations (Geneva: J.J. Paschoud) as well as later Paris editions in 1819, 1828 (T. Ballimore) and in 1829.
