Notes
Extracts from Priestley's essay on history were published in the following issues of L'osservatore piemontese: n.1, 3, 7, 9. It is probably an Italian translation of Cantwell's translation of Priestley (see n. 160) that appeared in 1798. The newspaper used this translation to replicate to the publication of Inutilità della storia. Discorso di Girolamo Bocalosi published in Milan but available in Morano's shop. The author of this translation covered his identity with the initials "C.L.". We made the hypothesis that the journalist and radical revolutionary Carlo Lauberg is behind these initials. Lauberg was in Turin during 1798 to promote the transition of Piedmont from Savoy rule to a new republican government.
