Notes

Dating provided by John Keane in Tom Paine, a political life (1995), p.389.

This translation is of the first, unpublished, short pamphlet attacking organized religion, written in March 1793. This version does not include the promotion of deism found in the first published edition (1794). Curiously, Lanthenas is indicated as the author.
