Notes
A contemporaneous translation is mentioned in several secondary sources but no copy has been found before 1834. This version was translated by John William Calcraft as 'Memoirs of Henry Masers de Latude, who was confined during thirty-five years, in the different state prisons of France… Published in France in 1790, and now first translated into English'. It was published in London by Simpkin & Marshall, and R. Groombridge and in Dublin by W.F. Wakeman.
An abridged version was also published in Waldie's 'Select Circulating Library' (1834, Philadelphia), Part II, pp.40-72.
