Notes
Taylor calls this work an illustration of how the culture of revolutionary France influenced the British taste for Gothic allegory. The translator is a known radical. The only found publication of the text is Airs, chorusses, &c. &c. in Albert & Adelaide : or the victim of constancy ; a grand heroic romance ... As performed at the Theatre-Royal, Covent-Garden. This publication curiously claims that the story is translated from the German.
