Notes

Unpublished during Moyle's lifetime, this essay was published posthumously by Thomas Sergeant (ed.) in 'Works of Walter Moyle, none of which were ever before published' (1726).

An annotated edition was later published by John Thelwall in 1796, 'Democracy vindicated. An essay on the constitution & government of the Roman state, from the posthumous works of Walter Moyle, with a preface and notes, by John Thelwall, Lecturer on classical history' (Norwich: J. March).
