Mash was a student of Lincoln's Inn in 1791 and called to the bar in 1797. In 1804, he took up a judicial appointment in Madras through intervention of Sir John Coxe Hippisley. After his return to England he was elected the MP for East Retford in 1812 and became a consistent supporter of Catholic relief.

Publisher, editor and contributor (X) to the Cabinet. He also wrote several pamphlets, including 'An appeal to the Public Spirit of Great Britain' (1803).
