Notes

Hendrik Jonas Jansen was born in The Hague. He moved to Paris in 1770, where he worked as a translator of numerous works in English, German, and Dutch before opening a bookshop/printing house in 1791.

His carte de sûreté (identity card issued to Parisians during the Reign of Terror) dated 23rd August 1792 states that he was around 52 years old, had been living in Paris for 22 years, worked as a printer, and was a member of the National Guard, 14th company. He was also a polygraph and worked as an editor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Around 1806 he became Librarian to Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, Prince of Benevento and later became his imperial censor.

Jansen died in May 1812.
