Notes
Delandine was a lawyer turned scholar and 'homme des lettres', and an enthusiast for mesmerism, who dreamed of being accepted as part of the Enlightened elite. As a moderate deputy, he published a monthly diary of events, 'Mémorial historique des Etats généraux', from May through October 1789. See Timothy Tackett, 'Becoming a Revolutionary: The deputies of the French National Assembly and the emergence of a revolutionary culture (1789-90)'.
